Talking Tuesday #2

Special guest Bonnie Disney was on the porch! We talked not only discussed the main points from City council meeting on 9/3/24 but also about the positive aspects of Sumter County Schools with newly appointed School Board Chair, Bonnie Disney. We all discussed the importance of how to cast a vision for our community through a financial commitment to our schools moving forward. Lucy voiced her vision to see future Penny Tax dollars go 100% toward our schools (like the Horry County model). 

Talking Tuesday #1

The First Talking Tuesday on the Porch at Haynsworth was a success! We had several visitors from Ward 4 and beyond.  All in attendance had the opportunity to fill out the Unified Development Ordinance survey and discuss their concerns with Lucy and special guest, Tommy Bultman (former Deputy Tax collector for the City of Sumter). We covered the bullet points of the City Council meeting which included: 1) A First Reading of public rezoning at Alice Drive and Camden highway. 2) Procurement of new City of Sumter equipment. 3) Council Reports that included discussion about how the Penny tax will appear on the ballot and discussion about recent acts of gun violence.  

Additional discussion at the table included voicing concerns over our schools, where the sources of funding came from for our schools, and discussion of recycling (or lack there of).

With the weather getting cooler, finally, we'd love to see Talking Tuesday's grow into a crowd!
